Newsletter – June 2022

Registration is now open!

Life on Lake Geneva has resumed and training is well underway. Société Nautique de Genève is in a festive mood for its 150th anniversary. A jubilee week is planned from July 18 to 24! This is also the spirit in which the 49th edition of the Syz Translémanique en Solitaire, scheduled for August 27 and 28, 2022, is being prepared.

Registration is now open, with 53 boats already signed up! The number of competitors is limited to 100; those on the waiting list will be notified by e-mail one week before the start if their participation is possible.

Bright prospects for 2022

Meet Christophe Amberger, president of the Syz Translémanique en Solitaire organizing committee, aboard his boat Fou d’Amour.

A brand ambassador: Alexia Barrier

Alexia Barrier has been specializing in ocean racing for 15 years. She is a finalist in the Vendée Globe 2020 and has clocked up over 200,000 miles of racing (single-handed, double-handed and crewed). She has been president of the 4MyPlanet association for 13 years, working to preserve the oceans.

Alexia, how are you looking forward to the Syz Translémanique en Solitaire?
It’s a superb opportunity to sail on this lake that I’m particularly fond of. The conditions are very special and I don’t know them very well, so it’s going to be quite challenging.

You are the ambassador of this 49th edition…
It’s a huge honor, because there have been great names before me. It will also put the spotlight on The Famous Project, which I’m currently working on. I also hope to bring luck to the event and that the conditions will be good, I’ll try to bring back the Mediterranean sun!

After doing the Vendée Globe, is it easy for you to race on Lake Geneva?
It’s not easy at all because I don’t know the local weather very well, and you have to be born and bred on the spot to be able to have a solid knowledge and win. I’m looking forward to learning about the lake, it’ll be very interesting, and I’m sure the atmosphere will be great!

What do you expect from this race?
At the moment, I’m spending a lot of time in Paris for my project and fund-raising. It’s a great opportunity to get away from it all and sail with some top sailors. I’m delighted to be able to come to Switzerland, a country I adore.

Can you tell us about your Round the World project?
I launched The Famous Project in 2022. The aim is to have a 100% women’s international team to compete in the Jules Verne Trophy. It’s been 25 years since there were any women on this Trophy, so it’s about time we had a women’s crew again; it’s the maritime epic of the century. For two years, we’ll be learning by doing. We’ll be making stopovers in all the world’s major cities to share as much of our adventure as possible before the Trophy at the end of 2024. This project is a real sporting challenge, but also a human one. The aim is to take women in our wake and give them a boost!
