The next Syz Translémanique en Solitaire will take place on August 26-27, and will be marked by the presence of a brand ambassador, Geneva-based sailor Justine Mettraux.
Geneva, January 18, 2023 – To celebrate its 50th anniversary in style, the Syz Translémanique en Solitaire will welcome Geneva-based ocean racer Justine Mettraux as its ambassador. Seventh in the Route du Rhum in November 2022 and currently engaged in The Ocean Race crewed round-the-world race, Justine will be returning to her roots to sail on the lake where she took her first steps.
” I’m delighted to have the opportunity to sail on Lake Geneva again,” says Justine Mettraux. ” After ten years without taking part in the Translémanique en Solitaire, I’m delighted to be returning to an important stage of my career. I hope to inspire young people by showing them that it’s possible to make a career of ocean racing by starting out on Lake Geneva. .
The start of the Syz Translémanique en Solitaire 2023 will be on August 26. The race will bring together the best sailors on Lake Geneva on a demanding 120-kilometre course between Geneva and the Vieux-Rhône.
“ The Translémanique was my first solo racing experience,” says Justine. ” I took part four times when I was still living in Switzerland. It was an important step in my career: I was able to put myself in a situation and learn how to prepare. This is often the first step for young people interested in ocean racing. .
Justine first took part in this race when she was between 18 and 20 years old. In her second participation, she finished second in Surprise. It was just the beginning of a solo race for her, who has since gained in experience and offers a few tips for a successful Translémanique: ” You need to be well trained and have an operational boat; these are not necessarily boats designed for single-handed sailing, so it’s important to prepare them well. Of course, you need to have a good knowledge of the lake, and it’s often the most experienced who come out on top. .
Justine has a busy schedule in 2023 before she comes to Switzerland. She will take part in three legs of the legendary round-the-world race The Ocean Race, and will also line up at the start of the Rolex Fastnet Race in July, before returning to Geneva for the Syz Translémanique en Solitaire. ” I’m really looking forward to getting back out on the lake and having a good time,” concludes Justine. ” I’m going to enjoy myself as much as possible.
